Highlights include Morro do Pai Inácio with a panoramic view, offering diverse activities like hiking trails, waterfalls, caves, and observatories catering to different interests and adrenaline levels.
Iguazu Falls
Witness the awe-inspiring Iguazu Falls, where former first lady Elenor Roosevelt, upon seeing them, exclaimed, “Poor Niagara!” Understandably so, as Iguazu Falls is three times as wide and about 100 feet taller. Feel the power of these monumental falls with a private boat tour or gain a birds-eye view through a luxury helicopter flyover. Nestled within the sub-Atlantic rainforest, a UNESCO World Heritage site, the falls offer vibrant rainforest flora and fauna, including howler monkeys, toucans, caiman, playful coatis, and possibly the elusive jaguar. The name “Iguazu” originates from the language of the local indigenous Guaraní population, adding a cultural touch to this natural wonder.
Lençóis Maranhenses
Lençóis Maranhenses, situated in the north of Brazil, is a hidden gem waiting to be explored. This untouched national park boasts vast expanses of rolling white sand dunes, adorned with freshwater lagoons nestled between the undulating landscape. Despite its breathtaking beauty, Lençóis Maranhenses remains relatively unknown, making it a unique natural attraction. Encompassing 383,000 acres, the park resembles bedsheets (lençóis in Portuguese) spread along the Northeastern coast. Seasonal lagoons, filled with rainwater mainly during the first six months of the year, create a distinct and ever-changing landscape. The park’s diversity is further enhanced by mangroves, deserted beaches, bursitis palm trees, and the Preguiças River. Explore the enchanting turquoise lagoons with jeep and ATV quad biking tours, engage in kitesurfing adventures, and unwind on the dunes while witnessing a spectacular sunset.
Pantanal
The term ‘Pantanal’ comes from the Portuguese word “pantano,” meaning swamp. This vast wetland, with the highest wildlife concentration in the Americas, is a large floodplain fed by three major rivers. Mostly located in Brazil, covering the southern part of Mato Grosso and extending into Bolivia and Paraguay, the Pantanal is the Earth’s largest wetland.
Its nutrient-rich floodplains support diverse wildlife, including tapirs, peccaries, anacondas, capybaras, caimans, iguanas, anteaters, deer, tortoises, coatis, armadillos, otters, opossums, wolves, ocelots, pumas, and monkeys. The rare jaguar is also found here. With an impressive 670 bird species, the Pantanal boasts the highest wildlife concentration in the Americas.
